Hikvision Surveillance Systems Offer Solutions for Casino Gaming
Hikvision has vertical-focused experts who consult with ends users, A&Es, dealers and distributors on tailored surveillance solutions for industries such as retail, education and gaming.
HikWire sat down with Hikvision’s business development manager for casino gaming, Scott Bartlett, to discuss trends and how Hikvision is delivering customized security solutions for this dynamic market segment.
HikWire: Tell us about your role.
Scott Bartlett: As the business development manager for gaming, my primary role is to develop new business while creating brand awareness. As we work closely with more casino end users, we are identifying opportunities to expand our technologies to meet gaming specific surveillance needs.
HikWire: What is unique about security in the gaming market?
Scott Bartlett: Security systems in this space are very large and require a lot of engineering to develop a customized system for each application. Our average surveillance system includes an estimated 500 cameras, while some of the larger casinos have more than 4,500 cameras.
HikWire: What Hikvision solutions are catering to the needs of this vertical market?
Scott Bartlett: Hikvision security cameras deliver very high-resolution, high-quality imagery, which is valuable to casinos. Hikvision has a wide range of surveillance technologies with built-in smart features that deliver unmatched value in the marketplace. Our new monitor wall technology and network storage complement our large system architecture, and we anticipate great success in 2018 with these products, especially in gaming.
HikWire: What trends are driving security decisions in gaming?
Scott Bartlett: Technology itself is driving change within the casino industry. Longer range Ethernet capabilities and higher definition cameras working over coax cabling infrastructure allow casinos to upgrade old analog cameras to new high definition cameras.
The average casino will not change its technology for eight to 10 years because they simply cannot afford to upgrade infrastructure from coaxial cable to CAT 5 cable on such large systems. This, coupled with the disruption to the casino floor during upgrades, makes it virtually impossible to accomplish. With Hikvision’s TurboHD product line, casinos can upgrade to higher-resolution security cameras without changing infrastructure, saving them money while improving surveillance quality. And, for casinos that have upgraded to IP infrastructure, Hikvision’s H.265+ technology offers more efficient compression to reduce storage requirements.
