Better Data Protection Can Reduce Organizations’ Security Concerns
Hikvision Tips to Reduce Risk of Security Breach
The Varonis 2019 Global Data Risk Report found that 53 percent of companies have more than 1,000 sensitive files open to each employee, according to an article in Security magazine, and better data protection can ease organizations’ security concerns.
“Implementing a comprehensive plan to mitigate risk can be an uphill battle if an organization simply does not know where to begin. Organizations that perform risk assessments learn how attackers may exploit their data protection weaknesses before a data [security] breach, so they can prioritize remediation tasks and bolster their defenses,” from the report.
Additional report findings include:
- 58 percent of companies report more than 1,000 stale user accounts.
- On average, more than half of data was stale (53 percent).
- 38 percent of respondents have a password that does not expire, making organizations more vulnerable to security breach. The report added that “passwords that aren’t periodically changed are more likely to appear in [security] breached password dumps.”
The report also provides a Pro Tip to add preventive controls as an additional step beyond granting restricted permissions to reduce data loss risk.
