Focus on Education: Hikvision Offers Quality at a Great Value
Hikvision has vertical-focused experts who consult with ends users, A&Es, dealers and distributors on tailored solutions for markets such as education.
HikWire sat down with Hikvision’s director of business development for education Michael Brown to discuss new trends and how Hikvision is delivering tailored solutions for this market segment.
HikWire: Tell us about your role.
Michael Brown: As the director of business development for education at Hikvision North America, I’m responsible for supporting end users, A&Es, dealers and distributors on tailored solutions for the education sector with a focus on public and private childcare, K-12 and higher education.
HikWire: What trends are affecting security choices in education?
Michael Brown: Education end users want greater mobile functionality from their video surveillance systems including access from smartphones and tablets. Central monitoring and the ability to manage multiple school locations is a priority as well as integration with third-party systems like access control, video analytics, mass notification, body-worn cameras and mobile, ruggedized cameras and recording devices (i.e. DVRs and NVRs for school bus applications).
HikWire: What Hikvision solutions meet critical needs for the education stakeholder?
Michael Brown: Public schools are very cost conscious as they’re using public funds and have to put projects out for bid to multiple vendors. Hikvision’s TurboHD line offers the high-resolution quality of IP cameras and can be installed over existing analog coax cabling, saving them money. The installation price is competitive while quality is not compromised. Hikvision also offers low-cost, high-quality IP cameras and recorders in addition to providing added value over the HikCentral VMS (video management system) for custom user viewing.
HikWire: What does the future of security in education look like?
Michael Brown: In the future we’ll see the application of better technologies such as improved image quality and scalable security platforms that are easier to use and install, especially with better price points. The focus on deep learning for smart analytics will continue. Long term, the move to IP platforms will allow systems integrators to easily connect video and access control with other systems such as HVAC, power, lighting and fire. Users will have the ability to access footage on one central software platform on their workstation or remotely via a mobile device.
