Hikvision Canada was an event and prize sponsor for the 2019 Canadian Fallen Firefighter Appreciation Day (FFAD 2019), which took place in the town of Milton in Ontario, Canada on Sunday, Sept. 29 at the Milton Fair Grounds.
The FFAD fundraiser is hosted by Reebok CrossFit FirePower in support of the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation, a foundation created to acknowledge all firefighters for their bravery, profession and to support families of fallen firefighters.
The event held a unique team fitness challenge to demonstrate how physically demanding a firefighter’s job is. It's also a chance for active firefighters and other emergency responders to test their current fitness levels. Various local fire departments provided equipment support and promoted the event.
Groups of four were placed into civilian and firefighter division teams to compete and perform activities such as search and rescue, hose deployment, and ladder carries in full bunker gear and SCBAs (self-contained breathing apparatus). Each winner from the first place civilian team and first place firefighter team were awarded a Hikvision dash camera for their vehicles, each camera valued at CAD $175 MSRP. Hikvision distribution sales manager, Clark Northcott, participated with the winning firefighter team and auctioned off his dash camera prize, raising an additional CAD $125 donation for the charity.
All proceeds from the event were donated to the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation (CFFF) to provide education and job training for families of fallen firefighters, and contribute to the CFFF memorial fund. FFAD 2019 was dedicated to the memory of Firefighter Dave Thewlis of the Brampton Fire & Emergency Services, and Milton Firefighter Barry Kory.
The 2019 event raised more than CAD $8,500 as of this posting.
