Hikvision Surveillance System Secures Orange Group in Cameroon, Africa
A surveillance system provided by Hikvision, the world’s leading supplier of innovative video surveillance products and solutions, helped secure Orange Cameroon, a leading telecommunications provider in central Africa.
As part of a move to substitute voice and SMS applications with data and value-added services, Orange deployed Hikvision NVRs, decoders and IP security cameras with Hikvision’s iVMS software to protect its assets and infrastructure.
Hikvision integrator Servitel installed more than 300 Hikvision surveillance cameras and linked them to a central control room located at Orange headquarters in Douala, Cameroon.
“Even for a highly experienced mobile telecom provider, building a remote IP CCTV network to link to a remote central control room is a real challenge in Africa, as there is no existing inter-urban optical fibre network to utilize,” said Gregory Ancelin, director at Servitel in a Hikvision corporate case study. “For this multi-site system, we installed microwave links. The Hikvision cameras’ use of the very efficient H.264+ encoding technology enabled the transmission of 1080P HD quality images, but using only half the bandwidth of cameras using standard H.264.”
Control room operators can monitor Hikvision video surveillance footage and notify the Orange security department if a security breach occurs. The security team can also review video footage for post-event investigation purposes.
