To take advantage of emerging trends in both technology and cyberspace, businesses need to manage risks in ways beyond those traditionally handled by the information security function, since new attacks will most certainly impact both shareholder value and business reputation.”
Some of these cyber threats referenced in the article include the following:
- Growing sophistication of cybercrime and ransomware: The article said that organizations will have a difficult time keeping up with this increased sophistication in malware threats, and especially ransomware, which it predicts will become the leading cyberattack method by cybercriminals.
- Smart devices and cyber challenges: Increased adoption of smart devices will create more opportunities for attackers to exploit vulnerabilities. Also, there will be “an increasing lack of transparency in the rapidly-evolving IoT ecosystem, with vague terms and conditions that allow organizations to use personal data in ways customers did not intend.”
