The article by Security magazine, “Is your company losing data amid remote work?” covers the results of the “Data Loss Prevention” report by cybersecurity firm Egress. The survey found that email poses a risk for security breach and other concerns to organizations.
More than 500 IT executives and more than 3,000 remote workers were surveyed across a broad range of industries to gather data for the report. The study found that data loss was impacted by email and exacerbated by remote work and COVID-19.
“Everyone makes mistakes. But we know that tired, stressed people make significantly more. The data shows that one year into remote working, plenty of people are feeling the strain. When we learned that 60 percent of remote workers still work in domestic spaces with frequent distractions and interruptions, it wasn’t too surprising to learn mistakes leading to data loss are on the rise,” from the Egress report summary.
Other key findings from the survey include:
- 83 percent of organization’s data breaches were cause by risks associated with email.
- Due to remote working conditions, employees are sending out a greater volume of emails.
- 73 percent of employees reported stress related to the pandemic, which could lead to an increase in mistakes.
