Almost 70 percent of business travelers have been affected by security breach according to new joint research from the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) and AirPlus International, according to a Security magazine article.
Conducted online, the research surveyed 144 U.S. travel buyers who identified as a travel manager, buyer or procurement and sourcing professional. The majority of their business travelers were specifically “affected by a payment-related data [security] breach from an outside vendor such as an airline, hotel or retailer in the past year,” according to the article.
Virtual credit cards can serve as temporary card numbers for online payment and can be effective against fraud according to GBTA.
“We have seen the need to educate around virtual card benefits not just to travel managers but to corporate finance and procurement departments as well. This method of payment has the strongest level of security controls available on a payment tool which is critical in the age of data [security] breaches. When you couple that with the comprehensive data associated with each transaction it is easy to see why this is the future of business travel payment,” said Diane Laschet, president and CEO of AirPlus International Inc., in the GBTA announcement.
