Hikvision Covers SSI Assessment, Concerns about Security Breach
The “Data Breach QuickView Report” conducted by security firm Risk Based Security found a rise in reported security breach incidents in the first quarter of 2019 compared with the same period in 2018, according to the Security magazine article “Data Breach Trends In 2019.”
The report detailed that 1,903 security breaches were reported in the first quarter of 2019. When compared with Q1 2018, the number of reported breaches had increased 56.4 percent over the prior year.
“We [Risk Based Security] have always believed that the goal should be to know your vendors and assets, understand the threats and vulnerabilities that may impact those vendors and assets, and calculate a risk score in order to prioritize
mitigation actions. This is not accomplished by a single exercise once a year. It requires a continuous assessment of your organization’s risk posture as well as assessment of key vendors, suppliers, and business associates,” from the report.
Additional report findings detailed in the article include:
- The business sector accounted for 71.1 percent of breaches reported.
- As of 2019 Q1, three security breaches exposing 100 million or more records have occurred.
- 14.7 percent of organizations that experienced a security breach would not disclose the total number of records affected.
