Security Magazine Defines Cybersecurity, Network and Information Security
Hikvision Offers Cybersecurity Insights
In the Security magazine article, “Cybersecurity, Information Security, Network Security, Information Assurance: What’s the Difference?” the author provides an in-depth explanation of the various branches of security.
From the article: “As hackers, security breaches and malware attacks continue to dominate headlines, cybercrime has emerged as a global pandemic that last year cost people and organizations an estimated $600 billion, according to CNBC.”
Information security is designed to protect data and other sensitive information from potential misuse, and “aims to protect all data while cybersecurity aims to protect only digital data,” according to the article. This is why cybersecurity is a subset of information security. Cisco defines cybersecurity as the practice of protecting systems, networks and programs from digital attacks, mostly from external threats by hackers.
Network security, by contrast, is focused internally on networking infrastructure and policies, such as the monitoring of employee behavior and password policies, and implementation of firewalls, encryption and backup.
The article also discusses the Information Assurance professionals, many who are former hackers and security experts. “Whereas the aforementioned security functions are generally focused on preventing access by hackers or unauthorized users, information assurance is also concerned with ensuring that key data and information is always available to users who are authorized to access it.”
Hikvision has offered numerous tips about cybersecurity best practices including preventing malware attacks, reducing vulnerabilities, and employee policies related to complex password creation in its recent HikWire blogs posts. For cybersecurity insights from Hikvision, visit this link.
