SMBs Face Security Concerns, Find Challenges with Cybercrime Threats and Hacks
Hikvision on How Cybercriminals Target Human Behavior to Hack Accounts
Small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) face greater security concerns and find challenges mitigating cyber threats and hacks, according to the Canadian Security magazine article “Small businesses increasingly a target for cybercriminals.”
The article covered results from a recent annual survey of companies by the Ponemon Institute and password management provider, Keeper Security.
From the article: “While businesses of all sizes are victims of cyberattacks, the smaller the companies, the more vulnerable they can be. They don’t have large information technology staffs and many don’t have expensive, sophisticated software designed to monitor their systems and defend against attacks.”
Survey results included:
- 76 percent of U.S. companies surveyed had experienced a cyberattack in the prior 12 months, a 70 percent increase from the 2018 survey results.
- The most common type of cyberattacks reported by those surveyed were phishing and social engineering scams.
- Protecting customer records was respondents’ primary concern at 62 percent.
- 77 percent of companies said they didn’t have enough staff, while 55 percent said money was a challenge preventing them from having “a fully effective information technology program.”
