US Employer Demand for Cybersecurity Expertise Accelerates
Hikvision Ramps Up Cybersecurity Initiatives
New data from CyberSeek showed that U.S. employer demand for cybersecurity professionals has increased, according to an article in Security magazine.
CyberSeek is a joint venture between CompTIA and Burning Glass Technologies, funded by a NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) grant.
"Increasingly, governments and businesses are working to build better defense against cyberattacks, but training programs are simply not producing enough cybersecurity talent to keep up with demand and to keep data-driven enterprises safe," said Matthew Sigelman, CEO of Burning Glass Technologies, in the CompTIA press release.
According to the Securitymagazine article, CyberSeek data shows that the cybersecurity market has tightened. With “5.8 employed workers for every [cybersecurity] job opening,” employers cannot acquire workers from other companies. Instead, employers must train current workers in cybersecurity or seek out new people to fill their needs.
"Efforts to address the shortage of cybersecurity workers are underway on many fronts, but progress has been frustratingly slow. The threats are real and growing, with the potential to impact the livelihood of any organization. Our current cybersecurity workforce is doing what it can to keep us protected. It's critical for private sector companies and public sector agencies to take the actions necessary to bring more people into the cybersecurity workforce, and to equip them with the appropriate education, training and certifications," said Todd Thibodeaux, president and CEO of CompTIA, in the article.
Hikvision North America has ramped up its cybersecurity efforts, being called one of the “most proactive manufacturers” in thecybersecurity realm by Security Sales & Integration. In addition to establishing an internal cybersecurity team in 2017, the company set up a cybersecurity hotline, hosts an online Cybersecurity Center, opened the industry’s first Source Code Transparency Center, and hosted cybersecurity road shows in U.S. and Canadian cities.
Hikvision also recently announced that it achieved the U.S. Government Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 Level 1 certification, an encryption standard created by NIST, to be used in both IP camera and NVR products.
