Using New Cyber Defense Approach to Reduce Security Concerns, Breach
Hikvision: Ways to Test for System Vulnerabilities, Preventing System Exploits
Recent research published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal, Future Generation Computer Systems, suggests a new methodology to predict cyberattacks, identify perpetrators, and minimize security concerns such as breach, according to the article “A New Framework for Preventing Cyber Attacks,” in Security magazine.
From the article: “The scale of data theft is staggering. In 2018, data [security] breaches compromised 450 million records, while 2019 has already uncovered the biggest data breach in history, with nearly 773 million passwords and email addresses stolen from thousands of sources and uploaded to one database. Current cyber defense tactics simply aren’t enough, a new model of defense is needed.”
The author argues that current cyber tactics are facing challenges because the volume of data is too great for human analysts to review, and that current methods look primarily at “low-level indicators, small attack signatures such as IP addresses, domain names and file hashes.”
The new approach integrates knowledge about Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs)—a method for analyzing high-level indicators—and the benefits of finding an automated way to assess and review these indicators. Machine learning analysis can support this goal by providing more efficient classification methods and the capability of handling large datasets.
