Using Personality Traits to Reduce Security Concerns, Address Cybersecurity
Hikvision Insights to Identify Spear Phishing Security Concerns
The SecurityInfoWatch.com (SIW) article, “Adding the human element to cybersecurity strategy,” outlines an approach to security concerns based on personality traits and how people react to threats.
“Clearly, companies need a holistic approach that factors in not just the strengths and weaknesses of their technology systems, but of human team members as well. In order to understand the “human vulnerabilities,” it is necessary to understand humans, and one of the best ways to do this involves psychometric assessment. Among other things, this can inform how training can be better tailored to the needs of the various individuals on the team,” said John Hackston, the article’s author and head of thought leadership at the Myers-Briggs Company, in the SIW article.
Personality types can influence how we respond to cyber threats. For example, extraverted personality types appear to be more vulnerable to manipulative or persuasive attacks. Those in the “sensing” personality category are more likely to identify phishing attacks. The article added that “Understanding that all personality types have different strengths and blind spots that can make them vulnerable to attacks can help organizations develop more effective, integrated and coherent security protocols.”
