Security Magazine Discusses ‘Who is Responsible for Data Breach in an Organization?’
Hikvision Proactive About Cybersecurity, Aims to Reduce Security Concerns and Risk of Security Breach
In the piece, “Who in an Organization is Responsible for a Data Breach?” Security magazine discusses recent data breaches and where accountability should lie in an organization for security breach and cybersecurity.
Referencing recent high-profile breaches such as Equifax, Uber and Target, the article suggests that many organization’s leaders struggle to understand where responsibility lies for cybersecurity incidents, and how to establish best practices for dealing with them.
“While accountability starts with the CEO and corporate board, cybersecurity is a shared responsibility across every function and level of an organization. Cybersecurity is a practiced culture within the organization that must start at the top. If management does not take cybersecurity seriously, neither will the front-line employees,” said the author, Cindy Kaplan.
Kaplan also states that no enterprise can be completely exempt from the risk of cyberattacks and security concerns, and recommends that organizations start by defining their acceptable level of risk. Next organizations should outline a duty of care responsibility, the “actions or steps that a reasonable person would take in order to protect against a data breach.”
The article outlines ways a company can analyze its risk and create a plan of action involving all key parties.

Hikvision Takes Proactive Approach to Cybersecurity
Hikvision has taken a proactive approach to cybersecurity in an effort to provide excellent support to customers and partners, and aims to reduce security concerns and the risk of security breach. One of Hikvision’s key initiatives has been the creation of a dedicated cybersecurity hotline and an online cybersecurity center that features online firmware updates. Hikvision has also provided extensive tips and best practices on its blog, to help partners prevent cyberattacks.
In a recent blog about ways to prevent malware and reduce system vulnerabilities, Hikvision’s director of cybersecurity, Chuck Davis, stated: “…Malware is one of the most often used components in cyberattacks. Two of the most prevalent attack methods are network scanning and phishing. A typical network scanning attack occurs when a system scans a network (frequently the Internet) looking for vulnerable systems. When it finds one, it will exploit the vulnerability and infect the system with malware.” In the article, he also provides five tips to prevent malware.
Davis will be touring U.S. cities this fall for the Hikvision cybersecurity road show, where he will provide education for attendees about cybersecurity, cyber threats and vulnerabilities, and provide tips to mitigate potential security breaches and reduce security concerns. Visit our events page online here for upcoming road shows in your area.
