SSI Outlines Best Practices to Help Integrators Improve Cybersecurity
Hikvision Offers Cybersecurity Insights for Integrator Partners
In “How Security Integrators Can Enhance Their Cybersecurity Reputation,” Security Sales & Integration (SSI) web editor, Steven A. Karantzoulidis, provides insights to help integrators improve cybersecurity.
SSI best practices were inspired by insights from ethical hacker Tom Curtin, a speaker at the Northeast Security Systems Contractors Expo in June 2018, and a systems security professional (CISSP) and certified penetration tester (CPT) who helps companies evaluate potential cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
From the article: “Cyberattacks and ransomware can be devastating to an organization. A few years ago, the Mirai botnet enslaved thousands of IoT devices thanks to weak default passwords. … By installing a vulnerable device on a network, you become complicit should anything happen.”
Karantzoulidis shared three cybersecurity best practices for integrators to secure network and IP cameras:
- Cameras: Use strong, unique passwords and change them on a regular basis; utilize access control lists; disable unused services
- Switches: Bind MACs; disable unused ports
- Servers: Implement smart credentials and next-gen antivirus
SSI suggests proactive integrators can also perform vulnerability tests to improve their cybersecurity. To read all of SSI’s recommendations, click here to read the whole article.
