Hikvision Blogs Outline Tips to Improve Cybersecurity, Avoid Security Breach
A Security magazine article “U.S. Consumers' Security Habits Make Them Vulnerable to Fraud,” outlines results of a consumer fraud awareness survey conducted by the shredding company, Shred-it, which found that 49 percent of U.S. consumers believe their cybersecurity habits make them vulnerable to fraud or identity theft.
“Although consumers may be inadvertently putting their own information security at risk, the study also found they don't trust companies to keep their personal information safe. Forty-three percent of consumers believe the personal information they share with brands and companies today could be vulnerable to a security breach. With that, 40 percent say they would stop doing business with a brand or company if they previously suffered a security breach,” according to the article.
Additional findings from the study include the following:
- Fifty-one percent of respondents reuse passwords across multiple accounts, such as emails and online account logins
- Thirty-nine percent have been a victim of fraud or identity theft
- Twenty-nine percent of fraud victims were alerted by a business about security breach of their information
The majority of consumers (72 percent) stated they could identify if an email or phone call was fraudulent, while 12 percent were unsure if they would be able to recognize a scam.
