Getting Senior Executive Buy-In Drives Cybersecurity Culture
Hikvision Grows Cybersecurity Resources to Help Partners Reduce Security Concerns
In the Security magazine article, “Prove Cybersecurity’s Value to Build a Culture of Cybersecurity,” the author recommends that cyber professionals build a culture of cybersecurity by garnering senior executive buy-in, and offers suggestions for how to do this.
Reviewing your company’s annual report, corporate governance documents, and shareholder statements, as examples, will help security professionals understand what’s important to executives in the organization. “By clearly illustrating what’s working, what’s not and what needs to be done to fix it with evidence, you’re showing leadership that you not only understand the business risks, but you know how to measure and communicate those risks effectively, so business decision-makers can act upon them. If you want their buy-in, give them the proof they need to understand and act,” from the article.
Being able to show how existing cybersecurity investments are producing value for the organization and reducing risk is valuable for securing funding. In addition, having a cybersecurity champion in the organization is helpful for building a commitment to security.
