Penetration Testers Identify Vulnerabilities to Address in 2019
Hikvision Outlines Examples of Phishing, Using Ethical Hackers to Address Security Concerns
In the Security magazine article, “8 Vulnerabilities Penetration Testers Recommend You Address in 2019,” the author identifies several vulnerabilities that when addressed can reduce security concerns.
From the article: “With enterprises continuing to grow in complexity with the infusion of hybrid IT architectures that incorporate both on premise and multi-cloud environments, there is no doubt that securing your applications, data and workloads is growing more challenging. Yet, a focus on the basic elementary principles of cybersecurity can go a long way in protecting your company from most attacks. Penetration testers are the frontline witnesses on cyber threats. They continue to see the same weaknesses and vulnerabilities within the enterprises they examine.”
Some of the vulnerabilities that organizations should address include:
- Limit access: Create privilege separation so that users only have access to privileges, rights and data that are critical for their specific job function.
- Change default and weak passwords: Encourage users to change default passwords and use complex passwords to make systems less vulnerable to security breach.
- Phishing attacks: The article references the Verizon 2018 Data Breach Investigation report, which indicated four percent of users within an organization will click on links and are “are susceptible to well-thought-out attacks.”
