Hikvision Tips to Prevent Hacks and Protect Yourself Online
The Security magazine article, “How Data Breaches Can Make Hectic Holiday Travel a Nightmare,” outlines cyber threats for holiday travelers, and provides a tips to prevent becoming a victim of hack or security breach.
From the article: “Whether we realize it or not, from the moment we go online to book a trip until we return safely home, we touch a lot of things that carry potential security perils. The primary culprits, of course, are criminal hackers. But what has enabled them is a travel industry that has been slow to fully embrace application security. The result has been a rash of data breaches that have affected millions of travelers.”
Travel booking sites, airlines and even ridesharing apps have been victims of security breach. For example, the article notes that travel booking site Orbitz disclosed a 2017 breach affecting 880,000 payment cards, according to the article. British Airways had the financial data of 380,000 passengers breached in a 2018 incident.
Travelers can protect themselves by using a variety of passwords, implementing two-factor authentication wherever possible, and immediately changing your password if you suspect you have been a victim of security breach on a specific website or application.
