Password Habits Create Security Concerns for Businesses
Hikvision on Reducing Security Concerns Using Multi-Factor Authentication
Employees’ poor password habits are creating security concerns for businesses, according to the Security magazine article, “Password Habits Remain Key Obstacle to Business Security,” which covers results of the recent Global Password Security Report from password management firm, LastPass.
“Securing employee access has never been more important and unfortunately, we see businesses ignore password security altogether, or only half-heartedly attempt to address it. This report further highlights the importance of using the identity and access management tools available to information security managers in addition to maintaining focus on employee training to improve password habits,” said Gerald Beuchelt, CISO of LogMeIn—producer of the report—in the article.
Findings from the report also included:
- Employees reuse the same password an average of 13 times. Small businesses face real obstacles, as the report found that “employees at larger companies have an average of 25 passwords to manage compared to 85 passwords for those at small businesses,” according to the article.
- More than 57 percent of businesses around the world have employees use multi-factor authentication to improve security.
- Employees in the media and advertising industry have the most passwords to manage (97).
