Research Finds Retail Fraud and Security Concerns on the Rise
Hikvision Tips to Reduce Security Concerns this Holiday Shopping Season
The Security magazine article, “Online Retail Fraud Up 60 Percent Since 2017,” covers findings from TransUnion's 2019 Holiday Retail Fraud Survey, which found that 46 percent of consumers are afraid of fraud this holiday shopping season.
Research also found that in 2019, consumers used a mobile device for online retail purchases, up 58 percent over the same period in 2018.
"Year after year it becomes clear that when not at work, consumers increasingly prefer using their mobile devices to make retail purchases due to their convenience. Once at work when they're at their desk, consumers turn to their desktop and laptop computers to make purchases," said Melissa Gaddis, senior director of customer success at TransUnion company, iovation.
Research also ranked the top 2019 Thanksgiving weekend shopping days by suspected fraud:
- Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28: 17 percent of suspected fraudulent holiday weekend transactions.
- Black Friday, Nov. 29: 25 percent of suspected fraudulent holiday weekend transactions.
- Cyber Monday, Dec. 2: 21 percent of suspected fraudulent holiday weekend transactions.
