SIA Tackles Workplace Violence in Healthcare Settings
In an effort to address rampant workplace violence in healthcare settings, the Security Industry Association collaborated with a prominent healthcare group to come up with guidelines for healthcare practitioners.
“Mitigating the Risk of Workplace Violence in Health Care Settings,” a joint report from SIA and the International Association for Health Care Security and Safety Foundation (IAHSS), released August 2017 summarizes stressors, reviews regulations and compliance, and delivers a multi-pronged strategy for addressing people, procedures and technology.
“From a people perspective, it starts with senior leadership accepting the fact that there is always the potential for violence in the workplace. Management must, therefore, be willing to commit adequate resources to curb it,” the report says.
Technology solutions such as video surveillance, access control and mass notification systems, can play an important role in helping reduce workplace violence.
