Hikvision Thermal Security Cameras Offer Tailored Solutions for Critical Infrastructure
Hikvision has vertical-focused experts who consult with ends users, A&Es, dealers and distributors on tailored solutions for industries such as critical infrastructure and thermal security camera applications.
HikWire sat down with Hikvision’s business development manager for thermal cameras, Tony DeStefano, to discuss trends and how Hikvision is delivering customized security solutions for this important market segment.
HikWire: Tell us about your role.
Tony DeStefano: I am responsible for growing the thermal camera and critical infrastructure business for Hikvision in North America. Thermal cameras were introduced in Hikvision Europe and Hikvision Asia about two years ago and have been showing good results. We are confident that the custom solutions that thermal applications provide will translate to similar success here in North America.
HikWire: Where do thermal camera solutions have the biggest impact?
Tony DeStefano: Critical Infrastructure is a key vertical for thermal cameras. Big users of thermal include transportation (airports, ports and rail), energy (oil and gas facilities), grid protection (electrical power plants, substations and nuclear power), and government (border protection and military). Thermal cameras can detect infrared energy which is emitted from objects such as humans, animals, and vehicles in total darkness at distances up to several miles away. This technology works great in complex applications with large areas where lighting improvements are not practical or affordable.
HikWire: How are Hikvision’s thermal camera solutions are being tailored to meet industry needs today?
Tony DeStefano: Hikvision thermal cameras have onboard camera analytics that enable customization for client needs. Cameras include theft or intruder detection for trip line and regions of interest. With heat and fire detection, we can set up to ten different temperature levels. Our unique software has the ability to combine a thermal camera with a PTZ camera to track an object for long distances.
HikWire: What trends are you seeing in thermal technology and how will they improve security?
Tony DeStefano: Thermal cameras are being used as early warning devices to detect rapid rise in heat before a fire can start, even before smoke or sprinkler systems can detect this activity. This innovative application of Hikvision thermal security cameras can potentially save clients thousands of dollars, even millions in some cases, by protecting equipment, property and personnel.
