Case Study: Hikvision Security Cameras Help Weigh Pigs at Denmark Farm
Hikvision security cameras and a custom VMS system provided by farm management solutions provider SKOV are helping to track pig weight at a farm in Denmark.
“We were looking for a solution that could be used by piggeries all over the world," said Kasper Rønn Christensen, strategic purchaser at SKOV in the case study. “That meant we needed to make it simple, practical and affordable. The fact that, even at a relatively low resolution of 2MP, clear actionable pictures were consistently available made these cameras a smart choice.”
Traditionally pigs are weighed manually using tape measures or a weighing apparatus, which often involves handlers attempting to get individual pigs on a scale, and pose many challenges including inaccurate weight calculations.
Hikvision mini dome cameras were placed in the pigpens to allow handlers to monitor the pigs. By connecting to the SKOV VMS, pig weight can be calculated and alarms can be triggered if a pig is not following the required growth rate.
“We are heading to a future where traditional farming is digitalized into smart farming, where surveillance cameras are not only used for crime prevention at the farms, but also as useful tools for farmers,” said Peter Guan, channel and marketing director at Hikvision Europe in the case study.
