Hikvision Cybersecurity Director: Corporate Password Policies to Combat Cybersecurity Threats
Hikvision’s director of cybersecurity, Chuck Davis, together with the Hikvision Security Lab at Hikvision headquarters, is leading the cybersecurity program for Hikvision North America, overseeing all internal and external cybersecurity initiatives and programs in the region. As part of these efforts, Davis is offering tips and best practices that Hikvision partners and end users can implement to reduce vulnerabilities and security concerns.
“Cybersecurity needs to be a concern for everyone in this industry,” Davis told Security Systems News in an email interview.
Davis recommends the following password policies to help organizations, integrators and end users improve security and reduce cybersecurity threats:
- Enable the password lock-out feature after a certain number of invalid login attempts, and receive notifications of those attempts.
- Users should be forced to change any default passwords to a strong password with at least 8 or more characters with at least one of each: numbers, special characters, and uppercase and lowercase letters.
- Each DVR/NVR and each camera should have its own unique, strong password, and it must be changed from its default password setting.
- Ensure individual accountability by assigning everyone their own unique username and password, with no sharing of accounts.
